South China(simplified Chinese: 华南; traditional Chinese: 華南; pinyin: Huánán) is a geographical and cultural region that covers the southernmost area of China. This region includes Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong and Macau. Central China is now officially part of South Central China governed by People's Republic of China. In Republican period of China before 1949, officials claimed Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian and Taiwan as part of South China, under the name of "Seven South China Provinces"(華南七省). Southern China, opposite to Northern China, is a much larger defination, dividing China into only two parts.
