President Moon Jae-in's chief of staff for policy Kim Sang-jo has once again reiterated the government's stance that nothing has been decided over the fate of the General Security of Military Information Agreement with Japan.
Today, in his first panel discussion with the press since he took the post,... Kim said various factors will be taken into account, including the security of Northeast Asia, which centers on cooperation between Seoul, WASHINGTON, and Tokyo.
However, he added that the government must also consider whether it's appropriate to extend the military pact with a country that says it cannot trust Korea.
The senior official also expects the current status of bilateral relations to depend on cabinet reshuffles in Japan, likely to take place next month,... as well as the coronation ceremony of the emperor in October.
We'll have more on what Kim says during the panel discussion,... in our later newscasts.
